411 Magazine: How did Fabscout get involved with Rentboy.com?
Gio Spano: We got involved with them a couple of years ago and did the first pool party in Palm Springs. We thought it would go well in
South Florida.
Did you have trouble choosing which charity to go with?
We tossed around a number of ideas. We’re pretty close to The Pet Project. It’s an excellent charity.
So what should guests expect when they go to the party?
There will be approximately 25 performers there. There will be different vendors. Lots of give-aways. A silent auction. . .
Will any of the Rentboys be auctioned off?
There will be a silent live auction at the end of the day. One of them will be auctioned off for charity.
What else should people look forward to?
We are getting everyone together to have fun and celebrate. We are able to bring fans, clients and porn stars to an atmosphere that is exciting and fun. But it’s not a sex party. There are no expectations of anything of that nature. I also want to make sure everyone knows were are not an escort agency. [The Rentboys] are all going to spend the day together under the Florida sun. There will be guys coming in from all over the country. They look forward to it too, because they get together with other porn stars and to meet fans.
WE ALSO GOT HOLD OF ANDREW JUSTICE, Rentboy and new porn star. The 26-year-old Illinois boy, will be one of the many hotties at the pool party.
411 Magazine: How did you get involved with the site Rentboy.com?
Andrew Justice: I think I saw an ad and I thought, ‘I could do that.’
What do you like about it?
It’s a good way to get your name out there and to get in touch with possible clients. It’s very centralized. Basically, I hang out with clients, go to movies, sit and talk.
Are you single?
Yes.
I heard you are new to the skin flick business. When did you get started?
I started seven months ago and am still pretty new in the business. My first movie is “Longboard.”
So what should fans expect at the Rentboy pool party?
It will be a bunch of us porn starts hanging out and having fun. They can enjoy the sights and they can meet people they wouldn’t normally meet on the street.
411 Magazine: How was Rentboy.com started?
Tom Weise:
We started on June 29, 1997 – 10 years ago. We’re celebrating our anniversary in a few weeks. We started it because the country was in a state of sexual denial and prudery. Coming from Germany, I wanted a challenge and wanted to bring up a level of honesty and openness in New York City. It was another way of taking these kids who would usually be in the streets and bars and putting them in a safer environment. It makes them their own boss. Gives them a much better way to deal with business. Since it’s the oldest profession in the book, I was an escort and stripper myself. I knew what was missing at the time. The only place an escort could advertise was in the streets and bars. It was unsafe and dangerous. Here, we really made it safer for them.
How has the site changed in the last 10 years?
It’s changed a lot. It’s taken a lot of time and effort to get to where we are now. We had not even an idea of how we are really going to do this. Now we make events, to get out to expos and gay pride events and started the Hustla Ball. We’ve grown more and more. We’ve given these guys an idea on how to get out there and manage themselves. We have over 25 million visitors and 60,000 escorts from all over
the world.
Have there been a lot of problems with the law?
It’s always an issue. There been many edgy moments. But we’ve never really been that much of a target. Our site is legally okay. We’re not an agency. We’re not a pimp, per se. We were mentioned in Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s last State of the City Speech in 2001. Six months ago, Rentboy Mike Jones outed Christian rights leader Ted Haggard. I did a prime time interview about it with CBS.
